New Media Designer

Reports to: Creative Services Lead, Design

The New Media Designer is responsible for playing a pivotal role in the conception and design of high-caliber digital marketing content at Helen + Gertrude across a multitude of platforms, including rich media ads for display and all major social channels. This role contributes to curating content across multi-faceted digital placements, such as social, display, web, and custom filters & AR lens creations.

The New Media Designer will work collaboratively within a cross-functional team to ensure our clients’ business needs are met while advocating the best solution for the end consumer.

The New Media Designer will focus on these key areas:

  • Exceptional graphic design aligned with brand standards
  • Accessibility-focused web design
  • Eye-catching motion graphics design
  • Cross-functional collaboration among copywriters, data analysts, media strategists, and production teams

Responsibilities Include:

  • Create custom on-brand digital designs that tell the brand story.
  • Editing quick social content footage to include text/graphic animations and audio, such as music or sound effects
  • Design ADA-compliant websites and user interfaces, starting from initial research to collaborating with web developers and final launch
  • While web development is not a requirement of this role, you should have a general understanding of front-end web development languages such as HTML and CSS to effectively communicate with web developers
  • Stay plugged into emerging ad/web technologies and industry trends and apply them to operations and activities
  • Exceptional communication skills by participating in storyboarding sessions, designing concepts using user flows, process flows, sitemaps/wireframes, and presenting ideas to internal and client teams
  • General understanding of content management systems, search engine optimization principles, and cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Read performance and insights reports and apply to designs for a more effective outcome
  • Provide art direction aligned with the brand when an Art Director is not available

What You Need:

  • 3-5 years of industry experience ideally in an agency setting
  • A flexible attitude towards evolving responsibilities and environments
  • Experience and passion for strategic marketing, developing and growing large brands
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Team-minded with idea generation and brainstorming skills

    REQUIRED: Present an exceptional portfolio including:
  • Expertise in Graphic Design principles and a keen eye for composition
  • Motion graphics skills, including kinetic typography and 2D/3D animations
  • Website design
  • Expert knowledge of applicable Adobe Creative Cloud suite of programs (i.e. After Effects, Premiere, Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator), and Figma
  • Demonstration of creative requirements for social media and display platforms, including video
  • An understanding of digital trends (on major social platforms and google display formats etc)
  • A flexible attitude towards evolving responsibilities and environments
  • Experience and passion for strategic marketing, developing and growing large brands
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Team-minded with idea generation and brainstorming skills
  • Knowledge of Cinema 4D is a plus
